Matthew 5:38-42

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

I remember listening to a converted Hell's Angel who was pastoring a church.  He said if someone slaps your cheek, turn the other cheek and let him slap it too.  But if he slaps it a third time, that's not biblical... and so we are fighting.  I laughed, but he was serious.  I think he missed the point of what Jesus is saying.  Jesus is teaching us an attitude to endure persecution.  Sort of like killing them with kindness.  He wants us to have a deeper sense of commitment and sacrifice.

I pray:  O Lord, it is so easy to retaliate... it is how we are wired.  Help us to not retaliate, but to kill them with kindness... to expect and endure persecution.  Amen.

Look at the Words say they "fell away". The had it, but lost it. Just like the Bible says your name can be blotted out of the Book of Life.
