The Flight to Egypt
they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” And
he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
After the wise guys left, an angel of the Lord told Joseph to hit the road.
Get out of here and go to Egypt. Now, let's get back to the actual wording, because I have an important
question to ask. Joseph has gone to bed for the night when the angel came to him in a dream and said: “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child,
to destroy him.” Now... let's get down to the real question... and be honest. Would you have told the angel of the Lord that I will be on the road the first thing in the morning? Or would you have gotten up in the dark, wake up the
family and leave immediately? Joseph rose and left! Truth be told, I think I would have gone back to bed and left first thing in the morning. I guess I would not have been God's choice. I would like to think that the angel of the Lord
coming to me in a dream would be so eye opening that I would have got up and left. I cant truthfully answer the question because I was not there.
I pray: O Lord, help me to respond to
your Word under your terms and not mine. Help me to respond like Joseph and to rise and go... trusting faithfully in your Word. Shape me and mold me according to your will. Amen.
