From Pastor Perry

11/09/2015 2 Peter 2:1-3

2 Peter 2:1–3 (ESV)
False Prophets and Teachers
2 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

There is a danger that many people fall prey to within the church. The problem is when you begin following a pastor instead of following God’s Word. Pastor’s come in many styles. Some pastors may be exciting and some boring. Some are better teachers and some are better preachers. Some are academic and some are more people oriented. Some are somber and some have outgoing personalities. It is easy to get caught up in a pastor’s persona, but too often a person is judged by how he conducts himself as opposed to being true to the Word of God. I know some preachers on TV that give out horrible theology, but they sure make it sound good. Oratory skills are great to have, but correct theology should be regarded as the better skill. We are warned against getting caught up in a pastor over getting caught up in right theology. “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words.” If you don’t study God’s Word, how will you know when you are being led astray?

I pray: O Heavenly Father, help me to hunger and thirst for your Word, and to study it. Help me to discern from what is Scripturally correct and what is false. Help me to not judge a pastor by his personality, but the Words that come from his mouth. Amen.

Look at the Words say they "fell away". The had it, but lost it. Just like the Bible says your name can be blotted out of the Book of Life.
