2 Peter 1:12–15 (ESV)
Confirm Your Calling and Election (Part 2)
Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 since I know that the putting off of my
body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.
Although we may claim that we are
a Christian, we are still a saint and sinner at the same time. The Old Adam is still alive and active in us as long as we are alive. Luther says we are to daily drown the Old Adam through our baptism. We are a saint in that we are forgiven, yet we still struggle
with sin because of the Old Adam that has been in man ever since the fall in the Garden of Eden. So even as a Christian, we still need reminding of putting off sin.
I pray: O Lord, I know that I am both
saint and sinner. Thank you for your forgiveness and help me to put off sin which will be a daily struggle until we die. I repent and pray for your continued forgiveness. Amen.
