1 Peter 5:6–11 (ESV)
Shepherd the Flock of God (Part 2)
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like
a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has
called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Reading this paragraph reminds me of Jesus and his
temptations in the desert. The scripture states: Luke 4:13 (ESV) “ And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.” Today’s reading states: “Your adversary the devil prowls around like a
roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Here is my concern. If the devil will go after Jesus, then he will certainly come after us. We must stay firm in our faith. The way to stay firm in the faith is to stay in the Word. Remember that God is more
powerful than Satan. God is the creator of all things, including the angels.
I pray: Oh Lord, the devil is always prowling around and trying to create doubt. Help me to hunger and thirst for your righteousness.
Help me to stand firm and keep my eyes focused on you. Amen.
