1 Peter 2:1–3 (ESV)
A Living Stone and a Holy People
2 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.
Being a Christian does not give us a free license to live how we want to, but to live according to God’s will. We are to “‘put away’ all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all
slander.” There is no denying that Peter is calling on us to change. But I want to make certain that you understand that it is God who changes us. In sanctification, the Holy Spirit works in us and changes us, and we do “co-operate”
in this change. But the changing is coming from God. We too often try to cut God out and give our self the credit, but it is God’s work. He is the craftsman or potter that determines who and what we are and he shapes us according to
His ways.
I pray: Help us to taste and see that the Lord is good. Help us to long for the pure spiritual milk that you give us. Lead us away from evil and to repent for our sins. Amen.
