1 Peter 1:22–25 (ESV)
Called to Be Holy
22
Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God;
24 for
“All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
and the flower falls,
25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And this word is the good
news that was preached to you.
We see in today’s reading that we are called to “love one another earnestly from a pure heart.” We are born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable,
through the living and abiding word of God. It is God’s word that changes us. We are baptized through water and the Word. The Word is preached and heard. In fact, the Bible tells us in Romans 10:17, “so faith comes from hearing, and hearing through
the word of Christ.” It is at the Lord’s Supper that we receive God’s Word through the bread (body) and wine (blood) of Jesus Christ. Yet we live in a day where people openly disagree with the Bible and ridicule it. We live in a world that
my claim to be Christian, but our lives often show that the world has turned away. Today’s reading tells us a hard cold fact: “the word of the Lord remains forever.” The world today, even some of the churches, are quick to reinterpret and
rewrite God’s word, but today’s reading tells us that the word of the Lord remains forever.
I pray: Help us Lord to not reinterpret your Word, but take it at it’s most simplest meaning.
Help us to stay true to your Word and to love one another. Amen.
