09/24/2015 James 1:22-25

Sorry about missing the post for 09/23/2015,  The problem was on the provider side.  I tried and tried to post the message.  The provider has fixed the problem and we are able to update.

James 1:22-25
Hearing and Doing the Word
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

James, the brother of Jesus, is talking about active faith. That is putting action to the Words of God. When God applies the Word to us, there is action in that we receive the washing of the Holy Spirit, the forgiveness of sin, eternal life, and salvation. We do nothing, these are gifts that He gives us. He gives us faith. You have heard the phrase that "If you are going to talk the talk, you need to walk the walk." Well, that is what James is implying. But the motivation is not from the law, or we do them because He expects us too. No, our motivation is God's love for us. We serve and help others out of gratitude and love. Our faith moves us to help others. If not, then do we really have faith? Works is a byproduct of faith. When you read Ephesians 2:8-9, you see that faith is given to us. When you read verse 10, you see the works connection. 8"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your on doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. We are not only to be hearers only, but also doers!

I pray: O Lord, help me to actively live my God given Christian life. Help me to not only hear, but to serve through love and gratitude. Use me Lord to further your Kingdom. Amen.
