James 1:9–11 (ESV)
Testing of Your Faith
9 Let the lowly brother
boast in his exaltation, 10 and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade
away in the midst of his pursuits.
When I read this, it takes me straight to the story of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man died and went to hell. Lazarus was poor and suffered much, and
when he died... he went to heaven. This is not about rich people going to hell and poor people going to heaven. It is about faith and love. Rich people often tend to take credit for their wealth and trust in themselves for their own provisions.
This is not true for all! Some are very generous in sharing their God given wealth to help others in need. We are saved by faith, not by works. And in the end, you can’t buy your way into heaven. I remember a poster that
says “He with the most Gold makes the rules!” Well, this does not fly in the Kingdom of God.
I pray: O Lord, help me to be content with what you have given me. The greatest gift
you have given me is my saving faith. Thank you for your gift of faith, forgiveness, eternal life, and Salvation. Help me to share these gifts with others. Amen.
