Hebrews 13:6–16 (ESV)
Sacrifices Pleasing to God
6 So we can confidently say,
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear;
what can man do to me?”
7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 9 Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them. 10 We have an altar from
which those who serve the tent have no right to eat. 11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy places by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp. 12 So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to
sanctify the people through his own blood. 13 Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured. 14 For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. 15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice
of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. 16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
There are two verses that really
stick out to me in today’s reading. The first is that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. What this means is that Jesus doesn’t change. Yet people are trying to change him. This wanting to change
because of the times does not fit Jesus who does not change. Which leads to the second verse that sticks out: “Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings.” The world is trying to rewrite the Bible and to strip away what God
has given. Especially in the area of same sex marriage. I hear some people demanding God to apologize for his destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. The want the passages that speak out against homosexuality stripped from the Bible. God
will have the final say on this and it won’t be popular with the world. The Bible says the sexually immoral will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven (Eph. 5:5; 1 Cor 6:9; 1 Timothy 1:10; Rev 21:8; and Rev 22:15). I am afraid that they
will be asking God... “You mean you were serious????” Yes He was. Although the world wants to rewrite the Bible, His Word still stands and he does not change. I know my message will not be popular with some, but their issue is
not with me, but with God’s Word.
I pray: O Lord, Your Word is Divine. Help me to change my life to fit the Bible, not change the Bible to fit my life. Amen.
