Hebrews 11:8–10 (ESV)
Heroes of Faith
8 By faith Abraham obeyed
when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him
of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
Abraham “believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.”
He was told to leave his land and go to the Promised Land. He didn’t know where he was going or what it would be like, but he went. I remember moving from Dallas to Fort Wayne, IN, to attend the seminary. It was a foreign land
to me. A land with snow, four seasons, different food, different culture... It was a scarey journey for my family of five. It was even worse near the end of the seminary when we were going to be sent to a church. We did not have a clue.
On call day, all the families had maps to look up where they would be going when it was called out. That day, I did not know where I was going, and I was relieved when they said Shreveport. They did not even need to say Louisiana. I was lucky,
I knew where Shreveport was and a little bit about it. I knew I had family only 80 miles down the road. Abraham did not have a clue, but he went. Trust in the Lord to guide you.
I pray: O
Lord, I pray for your guiding hand and the willingness to be guided. Help me to trust in your ways and to always continue believing the faith that you have given me. Amen.
