Genesis 5:18–24 (ESV)
Heroes of Faith
When Jared had lived 162 years he fathered Enoch. 19 Jared lived after he fathered Enoch 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20 Thus all the days of Jared were 962 years, and he died.
21 When Enoch
had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. 22 Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.
It has been said that Enoch never died. Well, when you read the reading above, it is not real clear. When it says “Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him”, one could interpret
this as Enoch died. But I have pulled a fast one on you. Did you notice that I am writing about Hebrews chapter 11, but I switched it with the Genesis passage. I did this on purpose. The above reading is from the Old Testament.
Now let’s read the New Testament account from Hebrews 11:5-6. “5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased
God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him." When we read the Hebrews passage, it becomes quite clear that Enoch never died, because
the Word of God says “5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him.” There are only two people in the Bible that never died. Enoch and Elijah.
I pray: O Lord, I would love to be added to the list of people that never died. Please come back for your Second Coming so that I can be with the group that is still alive. But it not, I still look forward
to seeing you face to face. Amen.
