Hebrews 11:1–3 (ESV)
By Faith
11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

We are beginning a famous section in Hebrews called the Heroes of Faith.  Today’s reading is the introduction and it begins by talking about faith.  It describes faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”  Well, it is interesting that as a Christian, we believe in all the heroes that will be mentioned, yet we have not seen them.  Just like our faith in Jesus Christ.  We have not seen him, yet we believe in him.

I pray: O Lord, I believe in you, yet I have not seen you.  You have given me faith that allows me to believe in you and your plan of salvation.  I also believe through faith “that the universe was created by the word of God.”  Thank you for my saving faith.  Amen.
