Hebrews 9:23–28 (ESV)
Redemption Through the Blood of Christ
23
Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true
things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. 25 Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, 26 for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since
the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so Christ, having been offered
once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
I find comfort in verse 24 where it says “[Jesus] now to appear in
the presence of God on our behalf.” This blows me away! I know that I am a sinner and that I fall short. I know that I am not worthy to enter the gates of Heaven. Yet God loves me so much that he sent his Son to live a perfect
life for me... and to substitute his life for mine and makes atonement for my sins. While I am ashamed of my sins, I do own up to them. I do not blame anyone else but “me”. Yet Jesus tells me that “he has my back”
and to let him handle it. So when I’m at the pearly gates... Jesus will appear in the presence of God on my behalf. Through Christ, I am veiled in Christ Righteousness, not mine. Jesus put away my sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Now that is love! And it is comforting to know that God has my back!
I pray: O Lord, you are my prophet, priest, and king. You created me and even died for me. Thank you for having
my back. Amen.
