Warning Against Apostasy
11 About this
we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, 13 for
everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
The longer we have been a Christian, the more we should know. I want to get persnal with you. How old are you? How long have you been a Christian? How many times have you read the Bible? Let me jiggle the knife a little bit. After
high school, it takes basically 4 years of college to get your teaching certificate. Now, do you have enough accumulated time that you should be able to be a teacher of God’s Word... or do you still need milk? Today’s reading states that “by
this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness. There are many older folks who have
been going to church for a long time and are life-long Christians... and they are still on milk. Thank God we are saved by grace and not by our personal knowledge. The good news is that we can study God’s Word and move on to spiritual meat and maturity.
I pray: O Lord, help me to continue to grow in Word and faith, so that I may more effectively share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. Amen.
