2 Timothy 2:22–26 (ESV)
A Worker Approved by God (Part 2)
So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. 24 And the Lord’s servant
must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from
the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.
Sometimes I wonder about church pastors, workers, Sunday school teachers, volunteers, and Christians in general... now I think I have
covered everyone and beginning with me! We have been reading that we are to live in harmony with each other, but too often it seems that quarreling is supposedly living in harmony. I don’t think so! Quarreling and bickering is not what
God has in mind. Today’s reading reminds all of us that “the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness.” We repent and
give thanks to God for rescuing us.
I pray: O Lord, help me to not be a quarreler, but to promote peace and harmony, and to live according to God’s will. I give thanks for you rescuing me
from the devil and giving me eternal life. Amen.
