1 Timothy 6:2–10 (ESV)
False Teachers and True Contentment
Teach and urge these things. 3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, 4 he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. 8 But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

I love discussing theology and doctrine with those who love the Lord and his Word.  I get frustrated when people claim they love the Lord, but have a disregard for His Word.  They don’t care what the Bible says, they want to believe in the ways of the world.  Doctrine is important and it is based on the teachings of God’s Word.  When someone confronts me with a controversial issue, I love to sit down and discuss the issue.  I begin by opening the Bible and reading what God says about the issue.  But too often, people don’t care what the Bible says, they only want to believe in what they think.  Don’t confuse me with the facts (the Bible).  This is a fundamental error.  We do not change the Bible to fit the ways of the world, but change the way we think to fit the Bible.  What are some of these controversial issues? Women’s ordination, abortion, gay marriage, homosexuality, bestiality, are just a few powder kegs.  People are often very emotional over these issues.  If you don’t care about what the Bible says, then let the ways of the world prevail.  You will be popular.  But God warns us to not be of this World.  God speaks against all these issues I just mentioned.  Pay attention to today’s text: “3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, 4 he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.”

I pray: O Lord, help me to study your Word and to help me build my life on your teachings, not the ways of the world.  Change me and mold me according to your Word.  Amen.

Look at the Words say they "fell away". The had it, but lost it. Just like the Bible says your name can be blotted out of the Book of Life.
