1 Thessalonians 2:17–20 (ESV)
Paul’s Longing to See Them Again
17 But since we were torn away from you, brothers, for a short time, in person not in heart, we endeavored the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face, 18 because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, again and again—but Satan
hindered us. 19 For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you? 20 For you are our glory and joy.
As I sit here writing this article, the news is on
about the rioting in Baltimore, Maryland, in response to the Freddie Gray funeral. I must admit that information seems limited about what all happened to Freddie Gray as to what he did and/or what the police did. I do know one thing... this rioting
is not the way to solve problems. This is not Christian behavior. This is not God endorsed! This is hindering any travel through this area. We do not know what was going on in Paul’s day or what was preventing him from coming
there, but we know Satan was hindering them. Satan is certainly at work in Baltimore, whether the police were right or wrong... whether Freddie Gray was right or wrong. I have heard that a lot of clergy were hitting the streets in effort to curb
the violence. My hat is off to them. Jesus Christ is bigger than the problem in Baltimore.
I pray: O Lord, I pray for peace and calm to come upon Baltimore, that the Holy Spirit convict the
hearts and refocus the people to Jesus Christ. Amen.
