Colossians 2:20–23 (ESV)
LET NO ONE DISQUALIFY YOU
20 If with
Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to regulations— 21 “Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch” 22 (referring to things that all perish as they are used)—according
to human precepts and teachings? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and asceticism and severity to the body, but they are of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.
Christianity is the only religion in which you do not earn your way to heaven. All other religions, you must submit to rules and regulations. Christianity is the only religion where God has done everything you need to go to heaven.
We are to repent and believe, but it is God who gives us the faith to do so. I have been to some churches that preach a message of don’t drink, don’t cuss, don’t smoke, don’t dance, don’t gamble, don’t.... or you are
going to hell. Well if that is the case, then I know where I am going because I still have the old Adam living in my body. But I am not bound by such rules and regulations. Christ took all those to the cross and set me free from rules and
regulations. I repent and try to do better through the working of the Holy Spirit, but “how good” I am does not come into the equation for my Salvation. It is no me, but how “good” Jesus Christ was and is... He is the one
who has set me free. Jesus substituted his perfect life for my imperfect life. For my Salvation, I simply cling to Jesus Christ!
I pray: O Lord, I know how I should live, but I fail miserably.
I am saved only through your life, death, and resurrection. Thank you for giving me the faith and continue to guide me in your Kingdom. Amen.
