Colossians 1:24–29 (ESV)
Paul’s Ministry to the Church
24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church, 25 of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that
was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, 26 the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. 27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which
is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
Paul’s text today speaks much from my heart. I can’t think of anything I would want to do more than to share the gospel, to tell others about Jesus and what he has done. It is the Church that has
called me as your pastor, “according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known.” I proclaimed the gospel before I went into the ministry which is all of our calling, but I have been called
now into the pastoral ministry for which I am ever humbly grateful and give thanks to you and to God. Thank you to all of you and to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Amen.
I pray: O heavenly
Father, please guide all pastors to keep their hearts and minds focused on Jesus Christ. Renew a love for your Holy Word and to know that your Word prevails. Kindle a love for the people and to serve with love. Amen.
