Philippians 2:12-18
Lights in the World

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. 17 Even if I am to be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me.

Yesterday, I had a good long discussion about the difference between justification and sanctification.  To be saved, you must be justified.  Everything you need for justification was carried out for you on the cross.  Jesus substituted his perfect life for your sin filled life on the cross.  He did this for everyone.   He died for you without you even asking.  I have been justified in Christ by Christ’s own actions.   Sanctification begins at justification and is a life long process where the Holy Spirit continually shapes and directs you.  We “participate” in that we make choices to follow God’s will or do it our way.  We will never be perfect until we get to heaven, but the Holy Spirit is shaping and molding us along the way.  Today’s reading is talking about sanctification... choices that we make.  Let’s reread this passage knowing that this is not about being saved, but how we respond to being saved.  Our life is one of gratitude for what Jesus has already done for us on the cross.

I pray: Lord, I give thanks for everything you have done for me.  I can never repay you for your life, death, and resurrection.  I know I have sinned and repent of my ways and want to do better.  I know I am not saved by my own actions, merit, works, or deeds, but only by believing in the faith that you gave me.  Help me to allow the Holy Spirit to continue shaping me instead of me trying to shape the Holy Spirit.  Help me to not grumble, but to walk according to your ways.  Amen.

Look at the Words say they "fell away". The had it, but lost it. Just like the Bible says your name can be blotted out of the Book of Life.
