Philippians 1:15-18

Paul’s Chains Advance the Gospel

15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

Paul makes an interesting point that some people preach with different motives, but Christ still gains from it.  I must admit that it does bother me when people try to profit off of Jesus and preach the wrong message.  The message still gets out and not all people will fall prey to their message.  The Lord can work through their message and still bring about His results.

I pray: O Lord, help me to share the gospel in truth and purity.  Help me to realize that God also works through those who preach falsely or out of selfish ambition.  Help me to live knowing that you are in control.  Forgive me when I have doubts.  Amen.
