Romans 12:9–13 (ESV)
Marks of the True Christian
9 Let love
be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation,
be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
All you need is Love!... But what kind of love? Well the love mentioned in verse 9 is agape
love. This is a love is a Christian love that wants what is best for a person according to God’s will. In verse 10, the love mentioned is a philos love, or a brotherly love. Love is one of our identifying marks. Paul says if you
don’t have love, you have nothing. Well the mark of the True Christian is loving what is Godly and abhoring what is evil. But let me issue this challenge. Where would the world be if everybody exercised the statement “Outdo one
another in showing honor?” I guarantee the world would be different! But the world seems to be hung up on selfishness, or “what about me?”
I pray: O Lord, I confess there
are many times that I am selfish. Lord help me to put others ahead of my self, and to “outdo one another in showing honor.” Shape me and mold me according to your will. Amen.
