Romans 8:35–39 (ESV)
God’s Everlasting Love (Part 2)
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,
        “For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In today’s reading, an important question is asked: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”  We can come up with a lot of suggestions such as: TV, Hollywood, science, school, books, neighbors, co-workers, peer pressure, problems in life, family problems, marriage problems, fishing, etc...   But the scriptures state 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  What it comes down to is that God will not let go of you, but... you can let go of God.  I like to compare this to the movie “The Guardian” with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher.  There is a scene where Kevin Costner is being rescued by helicopter out in the ocean and Ashton Kutcher is holding on to Kevin Costner.   Ashton will not let go of Kevin, but Kevin knows that he must let go or they both will die.  Ashton will not let go, but Kevin forces his hand out of his glove and lets go and drops.  This is a loose comparison in that God will not let go of you, but you can let go of God.  Not matter what you are going through, God is there.  He may seem distant, but it is probably you who have distant yourself from God rather than God distancing himself from you.  The way back to God is through his Word.  It is not based on you getting right with God, but it is God who makes you right.

I pray: O Lord, I know that with the ways of the world being forced on us, it is easy to lower my guard and to let the worldly influences change me and to slowly take me away from you.  Help me to stand firm in my faith, to wear the full armor of God, and to keep my focus on you.  Amen.

Look at the Words say they "fell away". The had it, but lost it. Just like the Bible says your name can be blotted out of the Book of Life.
