Romans 6:15–19 (ESV)
Slaves to Righteousness
15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. 19 I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

There is nothing like driving down a road with a police officer behind you and you don’t know the speed limit.  You are a slave to the law and you don’t even know the law or understand it.  We cannot live according to the law, and thank God that He has freed us from that burden.  Being slaves to sin is not fun, but Jesus has set us free and now we are slaves of righteousness.  We have a choice to serve God or sin.  Our choice will control and shape our lives.

I pray: O Lord, help me to serve you and you alone.  Forgive me when I focus on myself and do it my way.  Point me back towards you.  Amen.
