Romans 4:13–15 (ESV)
The Promise Realized Through Faith
13 For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith
is null and the promise is void. 15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.
The more laws that are created, the harder it is to adhere too. The 10 Commandments
are only 10 laws, but they are impossible to keep. Jesus took the 10 Commandments and tightened the wrench in how they are to be interpreted. Again, we all fall short. The Law condemns us, it does not save us. The Law sets boundaries
that when we hear what they are, we are inclined to break them and to do so quickly. “For the law brings wrath.” But thanks be to God for his forgiveness through faith.
O Lord, I find the law to be a curse to me, because I cannot keep it. I have no hope in the law. My hope is not from within me, but outside of me. You are my hope. You have given me faith! It is you who forgives me my trespasses.
I give thanks and want to do better. Amen.
