Mark 16:12-13
Jesus Appears to Two Disciples
12 After these things
he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. 13 And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them.
Today’s Short reading is about Jesus talking
to two disciples on the road to Emmaus. For more details, you can read Luke 24:13-34. Mark has left out a lot of details that are found in Luke. When Mark writes that “he [Jesus] appeared in another form to two of them”, you get
a better understanding in Luke. Jesus did not appear as an elephant, frog, or cow, but he appeared in a way that concealed himself so that they did not know who he was. He could have been wearing a hood and keeping his face partially blocked, but
however he appeared... they did not recognize him as Jesus. They did recognize him as a human, but he did not reveal himself until later. When they found out that it was Jesus, they ran back to tell the others.
What I do find fascinating is that they went back to tell the rest... it is a form of evangelizing. Telling others about Jesus. This took place right after the resurrection and they are just finding out that Jesus is alive. I pray:
O Lord, help me to go and tell others about Jesus and what he has done for me. Whether they believe or not, help me to proclaim Jesus to all people. I give thanks for his precious gifts of faith, forgiveness, eternal life, and salvation.
Amen.
