Mark 15:16–20 (ESV)
Jesus Is Mocked
16 And the soldiers led
him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion. 17 And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. 18 And they began to salute him,
“Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led
him out to crucify him.
Compare today’s reading to Psalm 22 written by David roughly 900 years earlier.
Psalm 22:7–8 (ESV)
7 All who see me mock me;
they make mouths at me; they wag their heads;
8 “He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him;
let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”
If you really want to be blown away,
compare Psalm 22 to all the crucifixion accounts of Jesus and you will see that Jesus knew how he was going to die. It was foretold roughly 900-1000 years before his birth. Even stating that his hands and feet will be pierced. Jesus
knew what was going on and what he would have to go through. Yet his love for you is so strong that he willingly took your place on the cross. Now that is LOVE!
I pray: O Lord, we often claim
that you don’t know what we are going through, but it is us who don’t know what you willingly went through for us. You were beaten and died for us. Forgive me of my trespasses as I forgive those who have trespassed against me.
