Mark 14:51–52 (ESV)
A Young Man Flees
51 And a young man followed
him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked.
Today’s reading contains only two verses. They are unique, in that
they are not found in Matthew, Luke, or John... bu only Mark. If you ask the question “So what does this mean?” The right perspective may be to ask why is it found only in Mark and not the other Gospels? Probably because they
did not see or experience this act. The young man who ran away naked was probably no other than Mark himself! He experienced it, so he writes about it. We are not sure that this is Mark, but most commentaries state that they believe this
is Gospel writer of Mark... that is, Mark!
I pray: O Lord, I know that all the disciples fell away from Christ. I would like to say “Not ME!” But I know this is not true.
I am a sinner like all others. Instead of focusing on not running away, I want to focus on your forgiveness. Please forgive me when I choose my ways over your ways. Amen.
