Mark 14:1–2 (ESV)
The Plot to Kill Jesus
14
It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him, 2 for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar from the people.”
It is a short reading today, but an important time marker. It is two days before Holy Week, the Passover, which means that things are about to start happening real fast. This will be the week of his death.
The chief priest and scribes are seeking to arrest him and kill him. So much for the Commandment “Thou shall not murder”. They will lie and deceive to get their wish. So the time marker is important to the reader.
I pray: O Lord, I know Holy Week brings you a terrible time, and I pray that I can endure to the end. Give me strength and faith. Amen.
