Mark 13:28–31 (ESV)
The Lesson of the Fig Tree
28 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 30 Truly, I say
to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
Today’s reading is different from Mark 11:20-24 (11/19/2014).
Today’s readings is saying to be aware of the signs of the times. When he says “30 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place”, he is talking about the destruction of the Temple.
It was destroyed about 40 years later... which is considered a generation. We need to keep our eyes focused on what is going on around us, but at the same time, we need to keep our eyes focus on Jesus. What do we do until the Second Coming?
Tell others what Jesus has done for you and continue to hear God’s Word.
I pray: O Lord, help me remember the Sabbath and to keep it Holy. Help me to fear and love God so that I do not despise
preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it. Amen.
