The Little Children and Jesus
were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and
do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And
he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.
What is your view of children. I think they are great, but I must
admit that there are times that they “get in the way” of what you are doing. The disciples are listening to Jesus and assisting him when people were bringing children to him. The disciples fall guilty to putting themselves higher than
the children… to see children as not being able to understand what is going on. As a pastor, I make it a point to great the children as the people are leaving the church. I have a special game I play with them. I have them give me
five, then the back side (five on the back of my hand), and then in the hole. This is the fun part… I make a hole with my thumb and pointer finger and they stick their finger in the hole and try to pull it out before I grab their finger.
So it usually goes like this: Give me five, back side, in the hole,… too slow! I also do a children’s message because they too are important. Jesus cared for the little children and blessed them. Yes… sometimes children
get in the way, but they are precious and a joy to have. This is when we need to stop and smell the flowers!
I pray: O Lord, help me to always stop and take time to greet the children and to not ignore
them. Help me to enjoy these little blessings that you have created. Amen.
