Mark 6:7–13 (ESV)
Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles
he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— 9 but to wear sandals and
not put on two tunics. 10 And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. 11 And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a
testimony against them.” 12 So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.
Jesus is about to
step up the evangelism outreach. He is about to use a shotgun blast model. Not the gun, but the blast where instead of a single bullet, you have buck shot scattering over a larger area. Instead of Jesus (single bullet) spreading the gospel,
he sends out the twelve apostles in groups of two. Now there are 6 new evangelism teams going out to spread the gospel. Not only is he starting to do team outreach, he also teaches them how to do it. Take nothing with you except a staff.
He wants them to depend on the Lord providing for their needs. The Lord will provide, but it will be through the people they are visiting. They had no food, no bag, not money, only the clothes they were wearing. He also gave them the power
to cast out demons. They went out and spread the gospel. They didn’t throw money at evangelism, but got out of the chairs and actually did it! They went out and casted out demons and healed the sick, while proclaiming that the people
need to repent.
I pray: O Lord, help me to be more outreach minded. Teach me and push me to step out and proclaim the Gospel. Amen.
