Mark 5:14–20 (ESV)

Jesus Heals a Man with a Demon

14 The herdsmen fled and told it in the city and in the country. And people came to see what it was that had happened. 15 And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. 16 And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs. 17 And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region. 18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. 19 And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.

Sorry I did not have an devotion yesterday and today’s is late.  My computer died and I had to go buy a new one.  Interesting that it dies while I writing about demons!  Well, in the last article, Jesus cast out a legion of demons from a man into a herd of pigs.  The pigs ran down a hill, over a cliff, and into the sea and drowned.  That part is kind of cool, but what if you were the owner of the pigs?  That is where today’s reading picks up.  The people were afraid of Jesus.  The see the results of Jesus with the demon possessed man… he has been healed!  They also know that there was a financial loss to the pig farmer.  They should be excited about the demon man… but they beg Jesus to leave.  This reminds me of Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Don’t let finances or the power of God scare you away from Salvation.

I pray: O Lord, there are times that I don’t understand your ways, but you are God.  Help me to accept your ways and trust your guidance.  I give thanks for your love, compassion and forgiveness.  Amen
