Mark 3:7–12 (ESV)
A Great Crowd Follows Jesus
7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea,
and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea 8 and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. 9 And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for
him because of the crowd, lest they crush him, 10 for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him. 11 And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”
12 And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.
There is a new global movement going on! Well... at least there are people all over the place that are following Jesus in today’s reading.
They are not following him because of his teachings, but “because he had healed many.” They want to be healed and they are missing the more important reason Jesus has come. One of the main points however has not been missed. The
people may have missed a major point, but the demons, or “unclean spirits” didn’t miss it. They cried out, “You are the son of God.” This fact did not go unnoticed by the dark world, they knew he was God. The
others were too hungry for selfish reasons and were blinded by their hunger. They sought physical healing instead of spiritual healing. If a blind man is made to see, yet does not believe in Jesus, he will not go to heaven. It would be better
to stay blind and know Jesus than to be healed and not know him.
I pray: O Lord, often I see people being dazzled by miracles instead of being dazzled by the message. In today’s world, it
is getting hard to find people who are dazzled at all by Jesus. I pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon this world, to renew a right spirit in the hearts of the people. Help them to repent of their ways and to follow you. Amen.
