Mark 1:14–15 (ESV)
Jesus Begins His Ministry
14 Now after John
was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
John the Baptist’s
ministry comes to an end when he is arrested while Jesus is beginning his ministry. He comes into Galilee proclaiming “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Basically, Jesus is
walking into Galilee saying “I am here! The question for the people is 1) who is the “I” and 2) why are you here? This is the message that will be proclaimed. Mark aims to prove that Jesus is the great “I Am”
and that he is the Messiah and is here to save the world. He is the fulfillment of prophecy as the Savior.
I pray: O Lord, You are the promised Messiah, the man with the plan. Help me to
share this message with the people in my community. I pray for the Holy Spirit to work in the hearts of the seeds planted through your Word. Amen.
