Ephesians 5:7–14 (ESV)
Walk in Love
do not become partners with them; 8 for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.
11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is
light. Therefore it says,
“Awake, O sleeper,
and arise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”
Today’s reading is saying do not become partners with those who are disobedient, immoral, or impure. Do not
take on their deeds, or they will drag you down. Light and darkness are opposed to each other. They do not belong together. Christians shouldn’t hang out with non Christians. I know this is a tough statement, but we
are to walk with the children of the light. You may think that Jesus hung around the lost. That is true! We to are to reach out to the lost! When Jesus needed to be with friends, he was with his disciples. The warning is
quite clear: “11Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.”
I pray: O Lord, help
me to walk according to your ways and to live in the light of Christ. Help me at the same time to reach out to the lost who live in the darkness. Let the darkness have no control over me, but help me to bring those living in the darkness into the
light. Help me to share God, his love, and his Kingdom. Amen.
