Ephesians 1:11–14 (ESV)
Spiritual Blessings in Christ
11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
Merriam-Webster defines the word “inheritance” as : money, property,
etc., that is received from someone when that person dies; something from the past that is still important or valuable. What inheritance did we receive? Is it money, is it gold or diamonds? And who died? I will work backwards and begin
with “who died?” Jesus died on the cross for you. This IS the central point of the whole Bible. The Bible is the story about God’s plan of Salvation for you. There is life after death. There is a heaven and a
hell. Hell is NOT an inheritance! I say that because it is not valuable. You do not want to go there and those who are there want out... but can’t. Kind of like the Hotel California song “you can check out any time you like,
but you can never leave.” So what is the inheritance. Faith is a gift. Faith saves. When Jesus died on the cross, he brings us the forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and salvation. These are the inheritance: faith, forgiveness,
eternal life, salvation... AND the Kingdom of God. Enjoy!
I pray: O Lord, the inheritance you have given me is greater than any gift I will ever receive. You have restored me into your family
and have given me the gift of heaven. How can I ever thank you. Help me to tell others about your wondrous gifts. Amen.
