Galatians 5:1–6 (ESV)
Christ Has Set Us Free
5
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
2 Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you.
3 I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. 4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly
wait for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
Why is circumcision such a big deal? Well,
if you are guy... it hurts! But that’s not why it is a big deal. In the Old Testament, a male was “marked” as a child of God through circumcision. All males were to be circumcised. This was a covenant made by God through
Abraham. To be a Jew was to get circumcised. Abraham must have been a good salesman to sell this idea to all the males. This act became a Law that all males had to carry out. Boy, I can’t wait to get into the circumcision line.
Maybe I could cut up to the front! But Jesus set us free from the Law... which means that we don’t have to be circumcised! We are saved by faith!
I pray: O Lord, help me to never
revert back to the Law, but to trust in you through the faith you have given me. You have set us free from the Law and I thank you for my freedom. Help me to stand firm and not return back to the Law. Amen.
