1 John 2:28–29 (ESV)
Children of God
28 And now, little children,
abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. 29 If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
We again (Christians) are referred to as “little children.” We are to abide in him, which means we are to stay with Christ, to endure in Christ. We need to stay with Christ so that when Christ returns, we have not wandered away
and miss out on our salvation... that is... to shrink from him in shame. To know we were once living in our salvation and then we walked away from it. John writes that if we “abide in him”, we will want to walk in his ways... that is,
to practice righteousness. We want to be sure of our salvation in which we have been born into through our baptism.
I pray: O Lord, help me to abide in you and to walk according to your ways.
Help me to trust and live in my baptism in which you washed away all my sins. Amen.
