John 11:54–57 (ESV)
The Plot to Kill Jesus
Jesus therefore no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there to the region near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim, and there he stayed with the disciples.
55 Now the Passover of the
Jews was at hand, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves. 56 They were looking for Jesus and saying to one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think? That he will not come to the feast at
all?” 57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should let them know, so that they might arrest him.
Jesus is now trying to avoid the crowds
because they are trying to kill him. Now he knows that he will not die until he gets to the cross. But I’m sure he is thinking that “I would rather not have rocks thrown at me, because it still hurts.” He is avoiding people
and... rocks. The chief priest gave orders for anyone with information on where Jesus is located to report it to them. Jesus is a man with a price on his head... Wanted... Dead or Alive! He is a wanted man... in more than one way.
I pray: O Lord, I’m sorry that they treated you that way. When I look in the mirror, I realize that you are avoiding my own sinful actions. I say I’m sorry, but I know I am just as
guilty. I plead guilty for all my sins and it should be me on the cross. Lord, you are my paschal lamb, that takes away the sin of the world. Have mercy on me. Amen
