John 7:32–36 (ESV)
Officers Sent to Arrest Jesus
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him. 33 Jesus then said, “I will be with you a little longer, and then I am going to him who sent me. 34 You will seek
me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.” 35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What does he
mean by saying, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?”
The Pharisees are seeing Jesus teaching and preaching in the open and they
know that they have not responded. They also know that the people are aware that they have not responded. The Pharisees hear the people talking about Jesus and his miracles and the questioning of whether or not he is the Messiah. They know
they need to take action, so they sent officers to arrest Jesus. Now Jesus is talking nonsense to them saying I will be with you a little while longer and then I will be gone and you won’t be able to find me. They think he is going off to
another country, but Jesus is talking about returning to heaven after his death and resurrection. They will seek him, but will not find him. Where he is going, you cannot come. They only way to go to where Jesus is going is through faith
when you die. If you die in the faith, you will go to heaven. Without faith, it is impossible. The Pharisees do not have faith, thus, they do not get to go.
I pray: O Lord, I know where
you live and how to get there. It is through believing in you through the faith you have given me. Help me to remain faithful unto death, and I shall see you face to face. I repent of my sins and trust in your forgiveness. Amen.
