John 5:30–47 (ESV)
Witnesses to Jesus
30 “I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me. 31 If I alone bear witness about myself, my testimony is not true. 32 There is another who bears witness about me, and I know that the testimony that he bears about me is true. 33 You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 Not that the testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light. 36 But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, 38 and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent. 39 You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. 41 I do not receive glory from people. 42 But I know that you do not have the love of God within you. 43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him. 44 How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”

Today’s reading is a continuation of Jesus’ authority.  The first verse today is comforting to me.  Out of all the verses today... it is the one I need to hear as an already believer in Jesus Christ.  If you are not a believer, then you need to focus on the rest of today’s verses.  Verse states: 30 “I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.”  Personally, I need to hear Jesus saying “I judge, and my judgment is just”.  We live in a world that has gone astray and is not turning back.  Because I am a Christian, I will continue to become more and more of a minority.  The Bible says that this will happen, that things will get worse before the Second Coming.  I want all people to be saved, but I watch as the ways of the world continue to draw people away from Christ.  This is Satan’s work and he will not give up.  It is comforting to know that those who draw people away from Christ will be judged, not by me, or man... but Jesus Christ.  After all, he is the one who died on the cross.  It will be a comfort to see Him sitting as Judge.  It will not be a good day for all those who have turned away from God or have drawn others away.  It will be a sad day, but there will be consequences.  So as they laugh at my ways and persecute my faith, I know that I still have work to do on spreading the Gospel... but in the end... It is Jesus that we all stand before.  It will not be a day of “I told you so”.  It will be a day that they realize they are wrong and it is too late to repent.  I do not rejoice in this... but I will rejoice as I enter heaven and see God face to face.  The rest of the reading for today is too all those who reject Jesus.  Is Jesus really the Messiah?  Listen to John the Baptist, the Father (Jesus’s baptism), Moses, and later on in the readings... you will hear the demons rightfully calling Jesus the Holy One of God.  If you listen to all these and still don’t believe in Jesus... Judgement Day will not be good.  You will have eternity in hell knowing that you were wrong... or even worse... walked away.  Heaven is very real.  I pray that the Holy Spirit works on all who read my blog articles.

I pray: O Lord, you are Judge and know all things.  I look forward to seeing you face to face.  Judgement Day will be awful for so many people who have denied you and have not listened to you, your Father, or the prophets.  Yet those who have listened and believe, we will see you face to face and there will be no sorrow, tears, or pain.  Let the Holy Spirit use me and help me to proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord.  That you are a loving God and a forgiving God.  You are full of grace and mercy... and forgiveness.  Amen.
