Acts 14:1–7 (ESV)
Paul and Barnabas at Iconium
14 Now at Iconium
they entered together into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. 2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 3 So they remained for a long time,
speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 4 But the people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews and some with the apostles. 5 When an attempt was made by both
Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to mistreat them and to stone them, 6 they learned of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding country, 7 and there they continued to preach the gospel.
There is a lot to learn from Paul and Barnabas. They keep preaching and teaching and moving from one city to the next. Many believe, and many do not. It is easy to let those who reject the Gospel message to beat you down and to distract
you. It is easy to simply walk away from sharing the Gospel and to just keep Jesus to yourself. Let Paul and Barnabas be an inspiration to you. They don’t tire, and are not persuaded by the nonbelievers. They simply keep telling
others about Jesus. They expected some to believe and some to not believe. They didn’t just have people reject their message, they mistreated them and even tried to stone them. They simply moved on.
I pray: O Lord, help me to be inspired by Paul and Barnabas and help me to not give up. Don’t let negativity beat me down, the let the love of God lift me up. Mold me and shape me to be your servant. Amen.
