Acts 9:32–35 (ESV)
The Healing of Aeneas
32 Now as Peter went
here and there among them all, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, who was paralyzed. 34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; rise and make your bed.”
And immediately he rose. 35 And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
I have a friend that fell out of a tree and is paralyzed from the waist down. I know the
special care he went through and the many hours of physical therapy. He overcame many obstacles, such as driving, and going back to work. The one thing he was not able to overcome was walking. It is amazing that he has been able to get around
and do so much. If someone came and healed him, we would all know about it and it would be a miracle. It definitely would get all of his friends attention. Well this is what happens in today’s reading. You have a man who has been
paralyzed for eight years. Peter comes by and heals him and tells him "to rise and make your bed." The man (Aeneas), gets up. This was a big attention getter and an even greater sign of God’s power. Could you imagine being in
bed for eight years and being healed? Looking at it from this perspective is powerful. I have another friend named Dan Chambers who is bed ridden and he was a pastor and now he is bedridden.
O Lord, I pray for all those who are paralyzed and in need of healing. I especially pray for John Haines and Pastor Dan Chambers. I pray for a miracle in their lives that would restore their bodies. Help them to appreciate the greatest
miracle that has happened to them, their baptism. Lord, give them peace and comfort to endure their hardships and to let the light of Christ shine on others. Lord help us to all appreciate our baptism which is God has washed us, forgiven us, and
redeemed us into his Kingdom. Amen.
