Simon the Magician Believes
there was a man named Simon, who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, saying that he himself was somebody great. 10 They all paid attention to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the power
of God that is called Great.” 11 And they paid attention to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized,
both men and women. 13 Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles performed, he was amazed.
Simon was a magician, but not what we
think of as far as pulling a rabbit out of a hat or making things disappear. He is more of a magician in “black magic” or in the magic of healing like a Shaman. The people really looked up to him until Philip came along. Philip
dazzled the dazzler! Simon was amazed and he too became a believer and was baptized. I think we can learn from this that God can change hearts and he changed Simon’s. We should never try to second guess whether someone would reject
Jesus. It might have been easy to ignore Simon and stay out of his way, but the power is not from Philip, it is from God.
I pray: O Lord, help me to not pick and choose who I share the Gospel,
but to share it with everyone. Let the Holy Spirit work through your Word and to convict and convert the lost. Use me to plant the seeds and to bring in the harvest. Help me to do it in a God pleasing way... without griping! Let me
always see the joy in your salvation. Amen.
