Acts 8:4–8 (ESV)
Philip Proclaims Christ in Samaria
4 Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word. 5 Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ. 6 And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip when they heard him and saw the
signs that he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. 8 So there was much joy in that city.
Because of the
persecution of Christians going on, the Christians have scattered and spread out. Philip went to Samaria and preached to them. But Philip didn’t come just preaching, he was also giving them signs, such as casting out demons and healing the
lame. The people were excited. You know, if you live in an area, you see people and you know them. You know who is crippled, who is blind, and who is crazy. When you see people you know that are healed, it is hard to argue when a miracle
has happened. The people cannot deny what is going on while Philip is there.
I pray: O Lord, help me to remain faithful and to be a good servant, even in the face of persecution. Let me let
you be my rock and my fortress. Help me to be bold. Amen.
