Acts 5:12–16 (ESV)
Many Signs and Wonders Done
12 Now many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon’s Portico. 13 None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high esteem. 14 And more than ever
believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, 15 so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. 16 The people also gathered
from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
I remember watching Monty Python’s “Holy Grail” and there was a scene
of people bringing out dead bodies into the street and like a garbage collector, a man gathering the bodies was yelling “bring out your dead”. There were dead bodies all out in the street. His yelling “bring out your dead”
was like the ice cream truck coming down the street playing music and all the kids rushing out. In today’s story, Peter and John have been healing so many people that word is spreading and now they are bringing out the sick into the streets so
that they can be healed when Peter comes by. Word was spreading so much that people from surrounding towns were bringing the sick to where Peter was putting them out in the street. You know that Peter would have been preaching the Word because
the preached Word is more important than the miracle. Any one who was healed will still die. The Word brought eternal life. Don’t be dazzled by the messenger, but be dazzled by the message!
I pray: O Lord, I pray for a revival in this land. I pray for the Word to be preached to all people. I pray for the Holy Spirit to convict and convert the people. I pray that I don’t sit idly by, but that you use me Lord.
Release the Holy Spirit on this land. Amen.
