From Pastor Perry

10/20/2013 Acts 2:14-21

Acts 2:14–21 (ESV)
Peter’s Sermon at Pentecost
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:
    17     “ ‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares,
        that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
        and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams;
    18     even on my male servants and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
    19     And I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
    20     the sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.
    21     And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

Coming off of yesterday’s readings where some accused the Apostles of speaking in tongues because they were drunk, Peter directs them to the words of the prophet Joel.  He connects Pentecost and the pouring out of the Holy Spirit with Joel 17“‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; 18even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy. He is saying that the event that Joel is speaking about has happened and the Holy Spirit is poured out on all people.  He also connects Jesus to the End Times which will be the second coming of Jesus.  Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I pray: O Lord, I know that you are the promised Messiah, the Savior of the world.  I know that Salvation is found in no other name than Jesus.  You are my Savior and I put my faith in you and your promises.  Help me in my daily walk to walk according to your ways instead of mine.  I am sorry for my sins and trust in your forgiveness.  Amen.

Look at the Words say they "fell away". The had it, but lost it. Just like the Bible says your name can be blotted out of the Book of Life.
