Luke 24:50–53 (ESV)
50 Then he led them out as
far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. 51 While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple blessing God.
This passage wraps up the book of Luke with th Ascension. Luke gives the full life of Jesus from Heaven to Earth with Jesus birth and then from Earth to Heaven with his Ascension. Luke also wrote the Book
of Acts which gives more details of the Ascension. The Book of Acts is life in the church after Christ. Luke ends with Jesus being carried up into heaven. But did you notice that Jesus blessed them on his way up. Jesus was always blessing
people and he still blesses us with His Word and Sacraments. What was the response of the people? They worshiped Jesus and returned to Jerusalem with great joy and they continually blessed God. Wow... I was in church yesterday and what were
we doing after roughly 2,000 years? We worshiped him with hymns, words, and praises. What a joy! Tomorrow we will continue the journey with Luke as we walk through the Book of Acts.
O Lord, I pray, praise, and give thanks for everything you have given us. You gave us your life, and you forgave us and restored us into the Kingdom of Heaven. You have given us eternal life and we will live with you and see you face to
face. I look forward to this with great joy. Forgive me, renew me and restore me into your kingdom. Amen.
